Amherstburg Freedom Museum, previously known as 'the Black Museum' is located in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada. It is a community-based, non-profit museum that tells the story of African-Canadians’ journey and contributions, by preserving and presenting artifacts that educate and inspire.〔http://www.amherstburgfreedom.org〕 It consists of the Museum complex which houses permanent and temporary exhibits, the Taylor Log Cabin-a historic home, and Nazrey African Methodist Episcopal Church, National Historic Site. ==Founding== The museum was founded by Melvin "Mac" Simpson and officially incorporated in 1975. His vision was to create community pride by promoting the rich heritage of African Canadians. In 2015, the North American Black Historical Museum will celebrate their 40th anniversary.〔http://www.blackhistoricalmuseum.org〕
